In accordance with Local Law 199, passed on November 20, 2019, New York City is set to launch the Queens Central Commercial Waste Zone (CWZ) in September 2024. This law mandates the creation of twenty commercial waste zones city-wide, with Queens Central being a the first of these.
Key Features of the Queens Central CWZ
Designated Zone
Queens Central, including neighborhoods like Maspeth, Middle Village, Jackson Heights, Corona, and Elmhurst, will serve as a the pilot district for the CWZ program.
Authorized Carters
Businesses have a choice between 3 zone awardees authorized to provide curbside collection and 5 citywide containerized (or “dumpster/compactor”) awardees. Basin Haulage is one of the ones approved by the DSNY in your neighbourhood.
